Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West and party spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Se\u00e1n Crowe has welcomed an apology from District Judge Anthony Halpin following his inappropriate, inaccurate and unacceptable comments regarding Muslims.<\/p>\n
In Tallaght District Court on Thursday, Judge Anthony Halpin said, \u201cMuslims think they can actually beat their wives\u201d.<\/p>\n
Se\u00e1n Crowe TD said;<\/p>\n
\u201cI welcome the withdrawal of these inappropriate, inaccurate and unacceptable comments.<\/p>\n
\u201cI fully acknowledge Judge Halpin\u2019s apology for any hurt he may have caused and his request for forgiveness, yet these occasions remind and demonstrate the need for a judicial council that can deal with complaints regarding judicial conduct.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it is astonishing that the public are subject to a judicial system where there is no avenue through which to lodge a complaint regarding inappropriate behaviour.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish to reiterate Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s call for the introduction of legislation for a Judicial Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cSinn F\u00e9in would also welcome and support the introduction of human rights and equality training for the judicial community.<\/p>\n
\u201cRacism and sectarianism must be challenged at every opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
