{"id":1717,"date":"2014-05-08T11:06:13","date_gmt":"2014-05-08T11:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=1717"},"modified":"2014-05-08T11:06:13","modified_gmt":"2014-05-08T11:06:13","slug":"people-to-pay-far-more-in-water-charges-than-figure-claimed-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/people-to-pay-far-more-in-water-charges-than-figure-claimed-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"People to pay far more in water charges than figure claimed \u2013 Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin South West Sinn F\u00e9in TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, has claimed that Minister Phil Hogan\u2019s admission that people might pay up to \u20ac500 in water charges makes a mockery of the \u20ac240 average charge per household announced by the Government.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that the average charge itself will be far more than \u20ac240 after 2016, once subsidies come to an end, and Irish Water and the Regulator will inevitably pass on the full cost to consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEnvironment Minister Hogan is only admitting to the vastly higher charges that will be paid by many households because people themselves have been doing their own sums and calculations. What is clear is that any proposed average figure will encompass a broad range from low to high. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has also emerged that we will not know the real level of charges until the Energy Regulator makes his report in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are seeing and hearing from Government is a fudge that they hope will stretch beyond the local and European elections on May 23rd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my growing belief that eventually the vast majority of households will be paying a much higher water charge than the Government\u2019s stated average payment of \u20ac240.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is becoming even more certain, as the days advance, is that Irish Water will pass the full cost of running their company and the water service onto consumers, as required by the EU Water Directive.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin South West Sinn F\u00e9in TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, has claimed that Minister Phil Hogan\u2019s admission that people might pay up to \u20ac500 in water charges makes a mockery of the \u20ac240 average charge per household announced by the Government.
