Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has criticised the Israeli Cabinet for backing a Bill which\u00a0declares Israel as a Jewish State and which will effectively\u00a0discriminates against religious\u00a0minorities.<\/p>\n
Crowe stated that he believes the Bill is provocative because according to reports it will mean that Arabs and effectively all\u00a0non-Jews will legally become second class citizens in their own land.<\/p>\n
Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI was disappointed but not surprised\u00a0to hear that the Netanyahu\u2019s right wing Cabinet backed this discriminatory Bill by 14 votes to 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u00a0is now set to\u00a0come before the Israeli Parliament later\u00a0this week for a general vote and where the exact content will be made public.<\/p>\n
\u201cArab members of the Israeli Parliament, and human rights groups, have already said that they believe this\u00a0legislation is discriminatory and racist, and that it could make Hebrew the only officially language of Israel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is despite the fact that Arab Muslims and Christians make up one fifth\u00a0of Israel\u2019s population.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Bill will effectively allow Israel to strip all rights off Arabs residents, particularly\u00a0if the Government claims that they have incited violence, including stone throwing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is seen by many across the world as\u00a0reinforcing and enshrining the apartheid policies of the Israeli state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Bill\u00a0could not have come at a worst time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is\u00a0extremely provocative, unnecessary,\u00a0and will inevitably increase tensions between Israel and Palestine, especially in Jerusalem, where\u00a0it is likely to add fuel to a\u00a0ratcheting up\u00a0of tensions.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
