Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has extended his party’s solidarity greetings\u00a0with the Palestinian people\u00a0to mark\u00a0the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.<\/p>\n
This year 2014\u00a0is also designated as the\u00a0International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.<\/p>\n
Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said;<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UN General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29th of November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People\u00a0in 1977.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Palestinian people have been an inspiration\u00a0and their resilience an inspiration to all those who are struggling for freedom and self determination.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year has already seen over 2,100 Palestinians in Gaza\u00a0being killed by the Israeli military assault on their isolated and besieged territory. People across the world quite rightly\u00a0protested against this latest Israeli\u00a0assault and\u00a0marched in solidarity with the besieged and occupied people of Palestine.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe witnessed Irish people coming out in their tens of thousands across the island while this current Government cowardly abstained on a UN Human Rights vote condemning Israel. To this day\u00a0it still refuses to take a principled position\u00a0within the \u00a0European Union and officially recognise the State of Palestine.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce again tensions are reaching breaking point in Jerusalem due to the sectarian\u00a0and warmongering approach\u00a0of Israel\u2019s right wing and fundamentalist driven Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey continue to play dangerous politics with religious sites in Occupied East Jerusalem and the amount of colonial settlements is increasing.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast week the Israeli Cabinet also approved a draft piece of legislation that would institutionalise apartheid by turning Arab citizens into second class citizens in their own land\u00a0and depriving them of their basic social, political and economic rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of Sinn F\u00e9in I would like to extend our warmest solidarity greetings to you the Palestinian people. Today we\u00a0commend you for your resolve, your bravery, in your long and\u00a0just\u00a0struggle for freedom, self-determination and independence.\u201d<\/p>\n
