{"id":2174,"date":"2015-05-12T10:39:06","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T10:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=2174"},"modified":"2015-05-12T10:39:06","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T10:39:06","slug":"tallaght-waiting-lists-extremely-worrying-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/tallaght-waiting-lists-extremely-worrying-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Tallaght Waiting lists extremely worrying- Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin South West representative and Sinn F\u00e9in TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe,\u00a0has expressed his concern and frustration at the alarming rise in citizens languishing for longer and longer periods on hospital waiting lists.<\/p>\n<p>Crowe has claimed that there is no real working strategy\u00a0 by Health\u00a0 Minister Varadkar to tackle the current crisis which he described as going from bad to worse<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere is no denying that there is a serious problem with waiting lists for outpatients and inpatient procedures in Tallaght Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFigures available from the National Treatment Purchase Fund reveal that at the end of April there were\u00a030,713 outpatients attending Tallaght Hospital, up on the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf these\u00a07,740 had been waiting up to three months;\u00a05,199 had been waiting for 3-6 months;\u00a07,949 waiting 6-12 months, 7,841\u00a0have been waiting between one and two years, 1,707 people have been waiting between two and three years, 268 have been waiting between three and four years and 9 people have been waiting over four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of these figures 5,504 were categorised as paediatric services.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Teachta Crowe, a member of Tallaght Hospital Action Group, continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cInpatient figures also make for uncomfortable and depressing\u00a0 reading.\u00a0 At the end of April, in Tallaght Hospital 3,598\u00a0patients were waiting for an inpatient procedure with 603\u00a0of these having been waiting for more than a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe crisis for patients and their loved ones is going from bad to worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBehind\u00a0many of these\u00a0hospital figures are individuals some in pain, dependent on medication, with\u00a0their lives on hold while awaiting life changing procedures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Government\u2019s health strategy is deeply flawed, lacks coherence and is increasingly failing patients\u2019 right across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoundbites and government rhetoric won\u2019t address the failings in current system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestment in the provision of extra beds, extra nurses, step-down facilities, long term care and nursing home beds will and is the only long term sensible solution to the waiting list crisis.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin South West representative and Sinn F\u00e9in TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe,\u00a0has expressed his concern and frustration at the alarming rise in citizens languishing for longer and longer periods on hospital waiting lists.
