{"id":232,"date":"2011-01-18T23:26:07","date_gmt":"2011-01-18T23:26:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/vandals-targeting-traffic-lights-putting-lives-at-risk-crowe\/"},"modified":"2011-01-18T23:26:07","modified_gmt":"2011-01-18T23:26:07","slug":"vandals-targeting-traffic-lights-putting-lives-at-risk-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/vandals-targeting-traffic-lights-putting-lives-at-risk-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Vandals targeting traffic lights putting lives at risk \u2013 Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vandals targeting traffic lights putting lives at risk \u2013 <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span><\/p>\n<p> Sinn F\u00e9in Councillor <span class=\"il\">Se\u00e1n<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span> has called on vandals who have twice<br \/> damaged traffic lights on Maplewood Road which are adjacent to the local<br \/> shops and close to Raheen \/ Whitebrook Estates to stop.<\/p>\n<p> Cllr <span class=\"il\">Se\u00e1n<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span> <span class=\"il\">said<\/span> this is a vital piece of infrastructure for<br \/> residents living in Springfield, Raheen and Whitebrook Estates.<\/p>\n<p> Following representations from Councillor <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span> the Council has<br \/> confirmed that workers will once again call out urgently to fix the<br \/> lights.<\/p>\n<p> He <span class=\"il\">said<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThere is huge concern locally that some unfortunate person, adult or<br \/> child, is going to be knocked down trying to get across the road.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWith children returning to schools in the area there is growing concern<br \/> that an accident will occur at this location.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe Council\u2019s Road Section has already called out to fix the lights on<br \/> two separate occasions only to see the lights signal box broken into and<br \/> vandalized.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cFollowing my representations they have promised to call out urgently,<br \/> once again to repair the damaged lights.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI am publicly calling on those individuals engaged in the vandalizing<br \/> of this vital piece of safety infrastructure to stop. They are creating<br \/> an added danger to pedestrians that could conceivably lead to the loss<br \/> of life or serious injury to someone from this community.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI have alerted the Garda Authorities about this matter and would urge<br \/> any local resident that sees individuals hanging around or interfering<br \/> with the pedestrian signal box to immediately call the Garda\u00ed in the<br \/> Tallaght Station.\u201d ENDS<\/p>\n<p> Editor\u2019s note: Below is the response from the Council to Councillor<br \/> <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span>\u2019s representation regarding the damaged traffic lights.<\/p>\n<p> Dear Councillor <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span><\/p>\n<p> Thank you for your email regarding the pedestrian lights on Maplewood<br \/> Road which are adjacent to the local shops and close to Raheen \/<br \/> Whitebrook Estates.<\/p>\n<p> These pedestrian lights have been the subject of repeated anti-social<br \/> attacks over the course of the last number of weeks despite being<br \/> repaired on a number of occasions over this period. Unfortunately they<br \/> continue to be the focus of unwanted attention.
