{"id":2360,"date":"2015-10-13T18:01:29","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T18:01:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=2360"},"modified":"2015-10-13T18:01:29","modified_gmt":"2015-10-13T18:01:29","slug":"crowe-raises-concerns-over-defence-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-raises-concerns-over-defence-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe Raises Concerns Over Defence Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s spokesperson on Defence, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has welcomed certain elements of new Defence spending and has his raised concerns about others.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere is an increase in Defence spending from \u20ac885 million in Budget 2015 to \u20ac903 million in Budget 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is welcome that this contains a \u20ac2 million commitment to put the Emergency Aeromedical Service on a permanent footing and pay provisions to allow for continued recruitment to the Defence Forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am concerned that some of this increased Defence spending may well be directed towards Ireland&#8217;s participation in the 2016 EU Battlegroup and the additional pressure from the EU and NATO for European countries to increase their weapons spending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to such a significant increase I want the Government to ensure that they will continue to provide a naval vessel and crew to partake in life saving search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean.
