Sinn F\u00e9in TD and member of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good\u00a0Friday\u00a0Agreement Se\u00e1n Crowe has called on the Irish Government to tackle and oppose the British Government\u2019s attempts to breach the Stormont House Agreement on legacy and victims\u2019 issues.<\/p>\n
Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Stormont House Agreement clearly set out the need to provide justice and truth recovery mechanisms for the families of victims of the conflict, which needs the Irish and British Governments to pass legislation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe draft legislation being put forward by the British Government on dealing with the legacy of the past would allow them to regulate the hand-over of what they term \u2018sensitive\u2019 information to historical inquiries. This is a clear breach of the Stormont House Agreement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an attempt to hide the British State\u2019s role as a central player in the conflict and their collusion with unionist death squads, such as those who planted the Dublin and Monaghan Bombings, and it must be opposed by the Irish Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe British Government has continually failed to meet its legal responsibilities on dealing with the past and the Irish Government must urgently tackle this latest attempt.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Irish Government has to take responsibility and to stand up for the victims of British state violence and collusion, and ensure they get truth and justice.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
