Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, raised the assassination of prominent Kurdish human rights lawyer, Tahir El\u00e7i, in the D\u00e1il today.<\/p>\n
Crowe also raised continued human rights violations in Turkey and the jailing of journalists.<\/p>\n
Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cTahir El\u00e7i was assassinated in broad daylight by a single bullet to the head.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) contends that he was killed by a bullet fired from a police weapon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe video of the moment El\u00e7i was killed is extremely disturbing and has convinced many impartial observers that he was assassinated by the Turkish authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmnesty International is on record as saying that the Turkish investigation \u2018already smacks of a cover up\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cI welcome that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flangan, joined with me in condemning the murder of El\u00e7i, and I have asked him to urgently raise the case with the Turkish Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cI recalled to the Minister the brutal killing of the human rights lawyer Pat Finucane in Belfast 26 years ago, as a result of British collusion, and I urged him to support Tahir El\u00e7i\u2019s family in their pursuit of justice and the prosecution of those who carried out and planned this murder.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
