{"id":2745,"date":"2016-07-15T11:07:39","date_gmt":"2016-07-15T11:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=2745"},"modified":"2016-07-15T11:07:39","modified_gmt":"2016-07-15T11:07:39","slug":"dublin-south-west-td-sean-crowe-has-said-he-has-mixed-emotions-around-the-winding-down-of-the-suicide-bereavement-charity-console","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/dublin-south-west-td-sean-crowe-has-said-he-has-mixed-emotions-around-the-winding-down-of-the-suicide-bereavement-charity-console\/","title":{"rendered":"Dublin South West TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has said he has mixed emotions around the winding down of the suicide bereavement charity Console."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Crowe said that recent scandals surrounding finances had made its future untenable but the positive work and counselling services that it provided must be maintained and built upon by others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cLike many others across Ireland I have had mixed emotions on hearing of the news that Console is to be wound down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cUnfortunately the positive work of the suicide bereavement charity Console will be forever associated in the public consciousness with the alleged financial irregularities of its disgraced Chief Executive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe hard work of innocent staff is being forgotten and jobs will inevitably be lost in next few weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIt is vital that its vital work is continued by others particularly it\u2019s counselling and supports service for those touched or bereaved by suicide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cConsole\u2019s positive work and its legacy should not be destroyed by criminality or the naked greed of a few corrupt individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cSuicide in Ireland is on the increase and it\u2019s a lucky family that hasn\u2019t been touched or impacted by it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cSupports and services are still\u00a0sadly lacking or non-existent in many areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIt says a lot about our society and our political elites that Irish citizens have to rely on charities or voluntary organisations for to address the needs of the vulnerable, disadvantaged and poor or those with impairments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cIncreased regulation is clearly needed following this latest \u2018charity\u2019 scandal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThis does not have to mean less services but more cost effective supports that will have the confidence and respect\u00a0of ordinary citizens.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crowe said that recent scandals surrounding finances had made its future untenable but the positive work and counselling services that it provided must be maintained and built upon by others.
