Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has described the hundreds of people who applied for 9 social houses that had been advertised on the Dublin South West Council Website as evidence of the country\u2019s housing crisis.<\/p>\n
Deputy Crowe said: \u201cAt 7.45am this morning, over 700 people had applied for 9 houses that had been advertised on the South West Dublin Council website\u2019s Choice Based Letting Scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe demand for these homes starkly illustrates the crisis we face and shows the desperation of people who simply want a house of their own.
\u201cThe facts are, 9 into 700 doesn\u2019t go yet somewhat perversely, there are thousands of empty apartments and ghost estates across the country that could be used to reduce the housing waiting list.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis must serve as a wake-up call for the government who keep telling us there is no housing crisis.
