{"id":3341,"date":"2018-01-26T11:20:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-26T11:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=3341"},"modified":"2018-01-26T11:22:16","modified_gmt":"2018-01-26T11:22:16","slug":"crowe-raises-tony-taylors-case-with-council-of-europes-commissioner-for-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-raises-tony-taylors-case-with-council-of-europes-commissioner-for-human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe raises Tony Taylor\u2019s case with Council of Europe&#8217;s Commissioner for Human Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s representative to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, used his question time in the Assembly with the Council of Europe&#8217;s Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Mui\u017enieks, to raise the unjust continued detention of Tony Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn PACE I informed Commissioner Mui\u017enieks that Tony Taylor was arrested and his early release licence under the Good Friday Agreement was evoked by the previous British Secretary of State, and that he was detained in Maghaberry Prison in March 2016 without having been charged, questioned or allowed legal representation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI informed the Commissioner that in the course of Tony Taylor\u2019s detention, no evidence has been produced which could in any way justify his continued detention, nor indeed his arrest in March 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said Tony Taylor\u2019s detention in this way fuels the perception of a form of legalised internment by remand. It is a violation of his fundamental human rights and a subversion of due process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked the Commissioner to look into Tony Taylor\u2019s case and I welcome his commitment on the floor of PACE to do so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn his reply he also committed to continuing to support ongoing human rights legacy cases in the North and this is also welcome.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s representative to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, used his question time in the Assembly with the Council of Europe&#8217;s Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Mui\u017enieks, to raise the unjust continued detention of Tony Taylor.
