Crowe\u00a0addresses Rally to Save St\u00a0Brigid\u2019s Nursing Home<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Dublin South West Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0spoke today at a rally in Blessington Co Wicklow\u00a0called to prevent\u00a0the imminent closure of St Brigid\u2019s nursing home in Crooksling.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deputy Crowe said:<\/span><\/p>\n

This Government is ruling by fooling.They tell us that austerity is working, that cuts to teachers in education is helpful and that the closure of St Brigids Nursing Home is good for patients,staff and the healthcare system.<\/span><\/p>\n

“They may fooled some people by saying they were an alternative and would approach things differently.<\/span><\/p>\n

The closure of public nursing homes across the state is\u00a0apeing\u00a0Mary Harneys\u00a0agenda of private health care and has\u00a0nothing to do with long term\u00a0patient care for the elderly.<\/span><\/p>\n

“There are <\/span> many unanswered questions surrounding the closure of\u00a0this particular\u00a0nursing home.<\/span><\/p>\n

“A small fortune has been spent on upgrading the facility. The care is second to none and a\u00a0real community exists on the site<\/span><\/p>\n

“Many in the medical profession feel it isn’t in the\u00a0day or long term patients best interests\u00a0to move from Crooksling.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The move \u00a0may have profound health implications for patients and will end up costing the Health Service and Irish taxpayers\u00a0even more money,\u00a0 as many of the 66 high dependency residents will need specialised care that isn’t available in any alternative public facility <\/span><\/p>\n

“There are also genuine fears amongst families that adequate alternative care will not be provided in any new facility considering the lack of high dependency beds available in the Dublin \/West Wicklow \/Kildare area.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor decades, St Brigid\u2019s has provided long term care for a very vulnerable group of women, many of whom spent most of their lives in the home. Being forced to move will cause significant disruption and disorientation to the patients\u00a0 a point I emphasised at today\u2019s rally.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe short-sighted decision to close this nursing home is even harder to understand considering it has had an excellent care reputation.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Come\u00a0early January huge pressure\u00a0 will again\u00a0be heaped on family members of the patients in St Brigid’s to move their loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It will be a difficult decision but if they decide to fight the closure, the people of Dublin Wicklow and Kildare will stand shoulder to shoulder with them.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
