The Sinn F\u00e9in TD stated that it is the thin end of the wedge, it will lead to more price increases for householders, and it will lead to more dumping and burning of waste.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPlans by waste operators to introduce a new charge for the green bin collection is the thin end of the wedge for householders and will lead to increased charges. That is the way the private operators have worked in the past and only the most na\u00efve will have faith in their assurances that prices will be stabilised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will inevitably lead to fewer people recycling and more illegal dumping and burning of waste.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is infuriating for many of those who genuinely want to recycle that the government is literally standing back, giving the nod to these private operators to increase charges, and not taking any measures to encourage less waste.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditional charges will impact on already hard-pressed households and it will discourage recycling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3384\" src=\"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/EOB-Scrap-the-charge-graphic-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"EOB Scrap the charge graphic\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/EOB-Scrap-the-charge-graphic-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/EOB-Scrap-the-charge-graphic-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/EOB-Scrap-the-charge-graphic-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/EOB-Scrap-the-charge-graphic-1280x960.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Crowe continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is lazy policy to simply slap another charge on households instead of bringing forward a comprehensive recycling plan, with increased taxes on industries that use products that cannot be recycled. We know that there is huge waste in this area, with the overuse of plastic that is not recyclable, and this must be tackled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are currently no serious attempts by the industries that produce these unrecyclable waste products to take any responsibility.
