{"id":378,"date":"2012-04-05T10:00:35","date_gmt":"2012-04-05T10:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-welcomes-cross-border-consultation-on-school-intake\/"},"modified":"2012-04-05T10:00:35","modified_gmt":"2012-04-05T10:00:35","slug":"crowe-welcomes-cross-border-consultation-on-school-intake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-welcomes-cross-border-consultation-on-school-intake\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe welcomes cross border consultation on school intake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Crowe welcomes cross border consultation on school intake<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s Education Spokesperson Se\u00e1n Crowe has welcomed a  consultation that is taking place with families living in the North and  South of Ireland that seeks to establish the levels of interest in  sending children to schools across the border.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Crowe said: \u201cI understand that the education departments in  both jurisdictions have agreed to carry out a survey in schools and  community groups in border areas and that arrangements could be in place  as early as September 2013.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would urge families to respond to the survey and if appropriate,  consider sending their children to a school on the opposite side of the  border to where they live.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the North\u2019s Education Minister John O\u2019Dowd rightly pointed out,  cross-border co-operation has been an accepted and growing practice in  higher level education and health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith rural communities facing the threat of cuts that may force the  closure or amalgamation of many small schools, this is an option that  needs to be considered.
