{"id":3854,"date":"2019-07-04T12:14:16","date_gmt":"2019-07-04T12:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=3854"},"modified":"2019-07-04T12:16:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-04T12:16:06","slug":"sinn-fein-welcomes-living-wage-of-e12-30-an-hour-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/sinn-fein-welcomes-living-wage-of-e12-30-an-hour-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinn F\u00e9in welcomes Living Wage of \u20ac12.30 an hour \u2013 Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dublin South West TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, today welcomed the new Living Wage rate of \u20ac12.30 per hour for 2019 and said that the government needs to lead by example and introduce this living wage to many of its own low paid employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sinn F\u00e9in TD said a Living\nWage is needed to ensure workers across the island of Ireland have an income\nthat is necessary to provide them and their families with the basic necessities\nof life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking today, Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe\nsaid;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in fully support the concept of the Living Wage, and we recently launched our own party\u2019s proposals on how we intend to introduce the Living Wage when we are in government.<\/p><p>\u201cThe current Minimum Wage is simply too low, and it does not take into account the reality of the high cost of living in Ireland.<\/p><p>\u201cWe welcome the Living Wage Technical Group\u2019s assessment that the Living Wage should now stand at \u20ac12.30 an hour, as this increase on the previous rate reflects the high cost of living people on low wages are now facing.<\/p><p>\u201cThis government have left low paid workers behind and will not even achieve their own self-imposed target of \u20ac10.50 per hour, as set out in their Programme for a Partnership Government.<\/p><p>\u201cI believe the government needs to lead by example in this and introduce the living wage to many of its own low paid employees.<\/p><p>\u201cWe believe workers deserve to be paid fairly for their hard work, and we think it\u2019s shameful that many workers and their families are living in poverty due to low pay.<\/p><p>\u201cHowever, we fully understand that not every business will be able to pay the Living Wage of \u20ac12.30 per hour, and we have taken account for that in our plans. <\/p><p>\u201cIn our proposals launched last week, we included a provision that the New Living Wage Act would include an exemption for those financially vulnerable businesses who can show they genuinely cannot afford this transition to the Living Wage.<\/p><p>\u201cThis exemption will safeguard businesses and jobs in those SMEs who find themselves in a difficult financial position.<\/p><p>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in is the only Irish political party with a credible proposal on how to introduce the Living Wage, and we want Ireland to become the first state in the world to introduce a Living Wage on a legislative basis.<\/p><p>\u201cProper wages and the eradication of precarious working practices must be the essential foundations of economic growth and productivity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dublin South West TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, today welcomed the new Living Wage rate of \u20ac12.30 per hour for 2019 and said that the government needs to lead by example and introduce this living wage to many of its own low paid employees.
