{"id":3875,"date":"2019-07-10T11:31:28","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T11:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=3875"},"modified":"2019-07-10T11:31:29","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T11:31:29","slug":"defence-forces-pay-issues-not-adequately-addressed-by-commission-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/defence-forces-pay-issues-not-adequately-addressed-by-commission-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Defence Force\u2019s Pay Issues not adequately addressed by Commission Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Defence Force\u2019s Pay Issues not\nadequately addressed by Commission Report&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dublin South West TD Se\u00e1n Crowe\nhas described the Public Service Pay Commission report on Defence Forces pay as\ninadequate and said that morale in the Forces was now at all-time low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding to the Public Service Pay Commission\nReport&nbsp;Deputy Crowe said:<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n\u201cThe Public Service Pay Commission has stated that its terms of reference\nprohibit it from considering the issue of core pay for the Defence Forces.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n\u201cThis is despite the fact that key issues in the Defence Forces in relation to\npay and allowances have been consistently raised over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defence Force personnel\u2019s morale is now at an all-time low. Members are leaving the Defence Forces in droves with 540 personnel having left the Naval Service in the past 5 years as evident in the recent controversy where the Irish Navy have had to reduce its capability and put the LE Etienne and LE Orla into dry-dock due to personnel shortages \u00a0<br> \u00a0<br> \u201cIt is blatantly obvious that this Government has never been serious about addressing the key issues in relation to pay and with Minister Kehoe at the helm it doesn\u2019t look like anything significant will come from that quarter any time soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Public Service Pay Commission\u2019s terms of reference excluded\nthem from actually addressing this issue, particularly for Defence Forces who\ndo not have a seat at the table for public pay talks.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n\u201cThe Government\u2019s implementation plan provides for a review of pay structures\nto commence in the medium term, with a long term plan to implement the\nrecommendations of the review that is yet to be established.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n\u201cThis is after a recommendation in the previous report over a year ago that pay\nwould be examined, but again this has been ignored by Government.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cDefence Force members are at the pin of their collar while the Government is\nstalling and using bureaucracy to addressing the central issue of pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust three short weeks ago, the D\u00e1il agreed in a motion on this issue that \u201ca permanent and independent Defence Pay Body be established.\u201d<br> \u00a0<br> \u201cI am calling on the Government to do just that and immediately implement the D\u00e1il resolution on Defence Forces that was passed on June 13th.\u201d ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defence Force\u2019s Pay Issues not adequately addressed by Commission Report&nbsp; Dublin South West TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has described the Public Service Pay Commission report on Defence Forces pay as inadequate and said that morale in the Forces was now at all-time low.
