Dublin South West TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, has described Bank of\nIreland\u2019s \u20ac150 million sale of loans to the vulture fund Cerberus as another\nnew low and appalling news for customers, tenants, and homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe sale of \u20ac150 million worth of mortgages by Bank of Ireland to the vulture fund Cerberus at a 40% discount confirms what we have known for some time. The banks are more generous to the vultures than to ordinary homeowners and tenants.<\/p>
\u201cWe have been here before, with tenants and homeowners being threatened with eviction or receivership after similar sales.<\/p>
\u201cThe government on the other hand has opposed at every stage Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s \u2018No Consent, No Sale\u2019 Bill which would end this abuse of the market.<\/p>
\u201cThere is an alternative to what has been described as the \u2018Great Irish Sell-Off\u2019. Even the credit agency DBRS have called on Irish banks to work with borrowers rather than pursue this sell-off of Irish assets and sell out of families and tenants.<\/p>
\u201cThis is why Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s \u2018No Consent, No Sale\u2019 Bill is essential. It would block any sale of these mortgage loans unless with the consent of the borrower.<\/p>
