{"id":3987,"date":"2019-11-14T12:08:36","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T12:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=3987"},"modified":"2019-11-14T12:08:37","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T12:08:37","slug":"fine-gaels-rent-crisis-failing-families-and-young-people-sean-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/fine-gaels-rent-crisis-failing-families-and-young-people-sean-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine Gael&#8217;s rent crisis failing families and young people \u2013 Se\u00e1n Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dublin South West TD, Se\u00e1n Crowe, has said the&nbsp;government\nis failing families and young people due to their inaction to tackle spiralling\nrents, and accused Fine Gael of &#8220;offering nothing to deal with the crisis\nalready facing renters.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sinn F\u00e9in TD\u2019s comments come as the latest&nbsp;Daft.ie\nreport today that shows rents have risen for the 14th&nbsp;Quarter in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe average rent in South County Dublin is now \u20ac2,224, the highest in any area of the State. This is on top of the ever growing cost of living, of insurance, and childcare.<\/p><p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same story right across the State \u2013 sky-high rents and no action.<\/p><p>\u201cAs shocking as these figures are, the reality is they reflect the day-to-day hardship ordinary people are facing.<\/p><p>\u201cThey can be the mother with two kids facing homelessness because her landlord has just hiked up her rent. They are the young person desperately rifling through Daft.ie to find something, anything even remotely affordable within commuting distance to work.<\/p><p>\u201cThey are the couple who have no chance of saving up for a deposit on their own home.<\/p><p>\u201cA whole generation are being locked out of ever having a permanent home.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Taoiseach is making a lot of the fact that the rate of increase in rent is slowing. What he is actually saying to people is that you aren\u2019t drowning as fast as you were last month, but you are still drowning and it\u2019s going to get worse.<\/p><p>\u201cFine Gael and their Government partners in Fianna F\u00e1il have\u00a0done nothing to reduce the cost of rents or to\u00a0protect tenants from further rent increases. They have connived together to block all solutions from Sinn F\u00e9in and the opposition.<\/p><p>\u201cWhat these latest figures clearly show, more than anything else, is that their policies are not working.
