Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDespite recent successes by An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na in seizing quads and scramblers in recent months, their illegal use remains a constant danger and anti-social nuisance to the community.<\/p>
\u201cI was asked to visit a number of parks last weekend by residents and clubs that use the football pitches in Killinarden Park, Tymon North, Kilnamanagh, Springfield, and Dodder Valley Park. <\/p>
\u201cEvidence of tyre and gouge marks in the turf is obvious and evident to anyone visiting the parks. Parks and play areas should be inclusive spaces, but unfortunately this increasingly is not the case.<\/p>
\u201cI am urging parents and all responsible individuals to consider the effects the illegal use of such vehicles have on their neighbours and their community. Parents need\u00a0to wise up to the dangers of young people illegally using them on public roads and parks, often without helmets or even the most basic safety equipment.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Crowe continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know that a number of young people have died or have been seriously injured riding quads and scramblers. Innocent passers-by have also been injured by the reckless driving of scramblers and quads on roads, footpaths, on green spaces, and in public parks<\/p>
\u201cIn some estates and parks the scramblers and quads are out every single day with many people, especially the elderly, not feeling safe walking the streets or walking children in the park.\u00a0<\/p>
\u201cFor many, there is no break for this activity. The noise pollution from the vehicles can run from early in the morning to very late into the night.<\/p>
\u201cI am asking parents to wise up and think again before buying these vehicles this Christmas.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
