Sinn F\u00e9in candidate for Dublin South West, Se\u00e1n Crowe, has said that Sinn F\u00e9in will tackle the trolley crisis head on by ending the recruitment embargo, hiring more nurses and midwives, opening more beds and providing more home help hours to relieve pressure on our hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOver the past number of years the crisis in our health service has escalated to unacceptable and quite frankly ridiculous levels.<\/p>
\u201cLast year was another record year in terms of patients waiting on trolleys. <\/p>
\u201cBehind all of the statistics are seriously ill people waiting on a hospital bed. You just have to walk into Tallaght Hospital to see it firsthand. The staff in Tallaght Hospital are excellent and they do incredible work day in and day out, the problem is this government and the Minister for Health are out of their depth. They have failed to build a health service that works and a health service that delivers.<\/p>
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t have to be this way.<\/p>
\u201cSinn F\u00e9in will tackle the trolley crisis head on.<\/p>
\u201cWe will build capacity in the health service to end the crisis in our hospitals.<\/p>
\u201cWe will lift the ban on recruitment and we will hire more nurses and midwives; 2,500 over the lifetime of a government.<\/p>
\u201cOver a five year term we will open 1,500 beds and hire an additional 1,000 doctors and consultants.<\/p>
\u201cAnd to end waiting lists for homecare we will deliver 12 million extra home help hours over five years.<\/p>
\u201cThese proposals will help to build a proper health service that serves both frontline health workers and the patients and families who rely on our health service.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
