Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has condemned the latest in an escalating series of attacks on postal workers in the area. An attack yesterday in Tallaght resulted in the hospitalisation of a worker and the theft of an An Post van and its contents.<\/p>\n
Teachta Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just the latest in a series of attacks on An Post workers and it has to stop. These workers are from the communities they serve and the risk to their lives makes it impossible for them to go about their daily work.<\/p>\n
\u201cYesterday saw the hospitalisation of a worker going about his rounds and the theft of his van.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is far from an isolated incident and workers are now discussing withdrawing their labour across the whole of West Tallaght. The effect this would have on the local community cannot be underestimated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been in contact with the worker\u2019s union, the CWU, to express my regret at what happened and my solidarity with the postman.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will be in contact today with Garda management to discuss this latest attack and what the Garda\u00ed and local community can do to stop these attacks and ongoing criminality.<\/p>\n
\u201cAttacks on public services and workers are an attack on our communities Those carrying out these vicious attacks need to be removed from society and put in jail.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am hoping that there is sufficient evidence and forensics available following this latest attack and those responsible are swiftly brought to court and face heavy sentences.<\/p>\n
