{"id":436,"date":"2012-07-17T08:01:06","date_gmt":"2012-07-17T08:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/report-highlights-growing-levels-of-poverty\/"},"modified":"2012-07-17T08:01:06","modified_gmt":"2012-07-17T08:01:06","slug":"report-highlights-growing-levels-of-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/report-highlights-growing-levels-of-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"Report highlights growing levels of poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Report highlights growing levels of poverty<\/p>\n<p>Local Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has described as \u201cnot surprising but wrong and unacceptable\u201d the findings of a report by Social Justice Ireland which shows that the income of Ireland&#8217;s poorest households fell by a staggering\u00a0 18% in a single year, while the income of the wealthy rose by 4%.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n<p>These latest findings by Social Justice Ireland that show\u00a0 the income of Ireland&#8217;s poorest households fell by a staggering 18% in a single year and while at the same time the incomes of\u00a0 wealthy actually rose by 4 per cent highlights what is wrong and totally unacceptable with this current Governments policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report\u00a0 also points to the fact that the top 10 per cent of the weathy in Irish society receives\u00a0 14 times\u00a0 more disposable income compared\u00a0 to the\u00a0 the poor who are now experiencing the worst income distribution than at any time in the last 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis follows similar findings in reports published by the Irish League of Credit Unions, Barnardos and the St Vincent de Paul which all show that the rich are getting richer and more and more families being forced into\u00a0 poverty grinding poverty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSocial Justice Ireland have correctly identified Government budgetory policies as making the situation worse and that their policies are responsible for actually widening the income gap\u00a0 between the wealthy and the poor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNowhere is this more starkly illustrated than in my own constituency of Dublin South West, where the scourge of unemployment and rising levels of poverty reflects the failures of this and past Government\u2019s economic\u00a0 policies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Unfortunately it looks like an anti-poverty strategy is way down the list of their priorities\u00a0 and the next budget looks like delivering more of the same.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anti austerity measures, paying off toxic banking debt,and rewarding the wealthy that helped create the current mess seems to be to forefront of Government thinking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thats what makes so many people so angry and frustrated during this crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny fool can see that without a radical rethink of economic policies the situation can only continue to get worse especially for those stuck in poverty&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Report highlights growing levels of poverty Local Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has described as \u201cnot surprising but wrong and unacceptable\u201d the findings of a report by Social Justice Ireland which shows that the income of Ireland&#8217;s poorest households fell by a staggering\u00a0 18% in a single year, while the income of the wealthy rose [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-436","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/436","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=436"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/436\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=436"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=436"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=436"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
