{"id":438,"date":"2012-07-19T08:52:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T08:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/catholic-church-must-honour-past-commitments-to-redress-victims-deputy-sean-crowe\/"},"modified":"2012-07-19T08:52:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-19T08:52:00","slug":"catholic-church-must-honour-past-commitments-to-redress-victims-deputy-sean-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/catholic-church-must-honour-past-commitments-to-redress-victims-deputy-sean-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Church must honour past commitments to redress victims  \u2013 Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><strong>Catholic Church must honour past commitments to redress victims \u00a0\u2013 Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe<\/strong><\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;\">Sinn F\u00e9in Education Spokesperson Se\u00e1n Crowe TD has said the Religious Congregations must honour their financial commitments and make full restitution to the Residential Redress Statutory Fund Bill.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;\">The Dublin South West Deputy was speaking in the week that the Bill was debated at Report and Final Stage in the D\u00e1il after tabling an amendment that would have led to a 10% levy on the outstanding interest if the six month deadline was not met for payment of the full amount owed.<\/span> <br \/><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;\"><br \/> He said: \u201cThe cash portion of the offers from the religious congregations\u2019 amounts to \u20ac110 million which is to be used to finance the Statutory Fund yet to date, less than a quarter ( \u20ac21.05 million) has been received.<strong> <\/strong><br \/> <\/span> <br \/><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cThere is widespread political consensus that the Catholic Church should honour its past commitments and expedite the outstanding amount owed. The Amendment I tabled would penalise the Religious Orders and congregations should they fail to pay their contribution to the Statutory Fund within a 6 month period from its establishment.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cI firmly believe there needs to be a deadline for the outstanding monies owed and the religious congregations should be a penalty clause if they fail to honour their past commitments. \u00a0Their failure to do so to date, will result in further hurt and anxiety to the very people who have already experienced too much suffering in the past.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catholic Church must honour past commitments to redress victims \u00a0\u2013 Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe Sinn F\u00e9in Education Spokesperson Se\u00e1n Crowe TD has said the Religious Congregations must honour their financial commitments and make full restitution to the Residential Redress Statutory Fund Bill.
