Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has called on the Government to back up their recent spin and introduce legislation blocking their proposed increase in the retirement age to 67.<\/p>\n
Speaking ahead of a Sinn F\u00e9in motion on the issue in the D\u00e1il this evening, Teachta Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cSinn F\u00e9in are completely against raising the pension age to 67.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is something that we have consistently fought the government on as they sought first to raise it to 66 and now to 67. Every worker should have the right to retire at 65.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome workers want to retire at 65, while others want to remain at work where they are able and willing to do so. Sinn F\u00e9in support them in this and our motion in the D\u00e1il tonight also calls for workers to be allowed work past 65 if they want. It must always be a choice that a worker makes for themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government are wavering on this issue. They see that public opinion is against them and have \u2018signalled their intention\u2019 to postpone this change in the pension age. This is just another spin tactic that they are fond of using. It means nothing without acting.<\/p>\n
