Cutting Welfare will enhance\u00a0recession conditions \u2013 Crowe<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Responding to calls from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to cut the dole, medical cards and child benefit local Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has argued that cutting Welfare will actually enhance\u00a0 recession conditions and make\u00a0it\u00a0worse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Deputy Crowe said: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe IMF representatives are plain wrong in their calls for cuts to the dole, medical cards and child benefit. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is ludicrous to suggest that\u00a0 ‘low exit rates’ from the dole\u00a0is the fault of\u00a0‘over\u00a0generous’\u00a0welfare payments\u00a0 rather than the\u00a0bald\u00a0facts that there are approxmately\u00a0fifty jobseekers for every single job vacancy. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn reality, the social welfare cuts made to date have further shrunk demand in the local economy leading to even more and more\u00a0business closures and job losses.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You only have to walk around areas like Tallaght and see the boarded up shops,\u00a0 the empty factories units\u00a0or talk\u00a0to \u00a0business owners who are operating on the last of their\u00a0savings to see the real impact on he local economy <\/span><\/p>\n

“It is understandable for many trying to survive on low incomes\u00a0\u00a0to\u00a0direct their anger at the IMF and these ill considered\u00a0remarks<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut\u00a0 people should\u00a0 also direct their anger at this\u00a0inept Government.\u00a0They are the ones \u00a0implementing\u00a0the policies of deprivation and\u00a0hardship\u00a0to the <\/span>applause of their european\u00a0ringmasters. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The IMF is lining up the ducks,but they are essentially telling the Coalition government what they want to hear.<\/span><\/p>\n

“When Sinn F\u00e9in met the Troika earlier this month it was made clear that the reason they are suggesting social welfare cuts at all is because the Government have actually chosen to pursue deficit reduction with spending cuts rather than by raising revenue from the wealthy.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Cuts to \u00a0Social Welfare and Child Benefit\u00a0\u00a0may happen\u00a0following\u00a0this latest\u00a0International Monetory Fund statement\u00a0but\u00a0 it appears it will\u00a0only\u00a0happen if it suits\u00a0the failed policies and\u00a0wharped thinking of the\u00a0current\u00a0Government.”<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
