Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has urged all TDs in the D\u00e1il to do right by adopted people and support Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s legislation to ensure they have a legal right to access their own birth certificate.<\/p>\n
The legislation will go before the D\u00e1il today and be voted on tomorrow Thursday<\/p>\n
Teachta Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cToday is a hugely important day as the D\u00e1il will consider Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s legislation to ensure all adopted people over the age of 18 have a legal right to access their own birth certificate. I am calling on all TDs to do right by adopted people and back this Bill and its approach.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter decades of waiting, we can finally right a historic wrong and deliver justice for all those adopted who have been denied access to their birth certificates and their personal information.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor far too long, many adopted people have been treated appallingly when they have tried to access even the most basic information about their family\u2019s medical history or background.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can finally make this happen and deliver this right. We can ensure there are no more delays.<\/p>\n
\u201cSinn F\u00e9in spokesperson on Children Kathleen Funchion TD has worked closely with survivors on this legislation to listen to their calls for action. This legislation is led and is widely supported by survivors and adoptee groups. It\u2019s time to listen to survivors and right this wrong.<\/p>\n
