{"id":455,"date":"2012-08-01T11:51:26","date_gmt":"2012-08-01T11:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-concerned-at-reduction-of-ambulance-service-cover-in-dublin-and-tallaght-area\/"},"modified":"2012-08-01T11:51:26","modified_gmt":"2012-08-01T11:51:26","slug":"crowe-concerned-at-reduction-of-ambulance-service-cover-in-dublin-and-tallaght-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-concerned-at-reduction-of-ambulance-service-cover-in-dublin-and-tallaght-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe concerned at  reduction of Ambulance Service cover in Dublin and Tallaght area"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crowe concerned at\u00a0 reduction of Ambulance Service cover in Dublin and Tallaght area<\/p>\n<p>Dublin Southwest Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has expressed concerns that a proposed cut in working hours affecting the National Ambulance Service will result in a reduction or a lack of coverage\u00a0 for areas like Tallaght from September onwards.The Tallaght based Deputy is concerned that\u00a0 proposals to reduce working week hours will inevitably result diectly in a lack of coverage, impact on response times and the overal quality of service delivered.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI am extremely concerned at reports that a reduction of the working week from 40 hours to 39 hours will result in the\u00a0 loss of existing Ambulance coverage in areas like Tallaght.\u00a0 Shift changes on Mondays between the\u00a0\u00a0 hours of 7am and 7pm are proposed for the Tallaght Station.\u00a0\u00a0 If this proposal gets the go ahead, this will leave only one Ambulance operating out of the Belgard Road,Tallaght, on that day where normally a second Ambulance Service is\u00a0 available.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Similar proposed cuts to other Stations may also impact on the likes of Tallaght and stretch out even more a greatly reduced service throughout the\u00a0 Dublin region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This proposal will inevitably lead to longer response times for medical emergencies and impact on the quality of the service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reduction or loss of the Ambulance Service will likely endanger lives in a large urban area that is already lacking in essential emergency cover and also place additional pressure\u00a0 on the remaining\u00a0 crews who will still be expected to cover an\u00a0 even wider geographical area in response to emergency calls<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These cuts to frontline services are happening supposedly to save money in this particular area by the Health Service Executive. A root and branch\u00a0 restructuring approach of that organisation by Health Minister O Reilly was promised\u00a0 but has failed to materialise.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Surely if there has to be any cuts then it should be in the area of wasteful duplication, not critical frontline services.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <br \/> &#8220;If there has to be financial\u00a0 saving cuts then why not a cull of\u00a0 top heavy management structures. Or why not take a look\u00a0 at the suggestion of the establishment of a new\u00a0 unified City and County Ambulance and Fire Service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This imaginative suggestion could potentially make substantial savings while at the same time delivering a new improved emergency service in the Dublin Region.
