{"id":484,"date":"2012-08-27T19:57:38","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T19:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/property-tax-proposal-public-needs-clarity-crowe\/"},"modified":"2012-08-27T19:57:38","modified_gmt":"2012-08-27T19:57:38","slug":"property-tax-proposal-public-needs-clarity-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/property-tax-proposal-public-needs-clarity-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"Property Tax Proposal Public Needs Clarity- Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Property Tax Proposal Public Needs Clarity- Crowe<\/h2>\n<p>Responding  to the Government\u2019s proposed value based property tax Dublin South West  TD Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0 said that the Tax didnt appear to take account of  the\u00a0owners ability to pay\u00a0 and\u00a0that\u00a0a\u00a0fairer and better\u00a0way forward\u00a0to  \u00a0deal with the financial shortfall was to introduce a wealth tax.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy\u00a0Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<div>\u201cGovernment Ministers and  spokespersons are saying no decision has been made in relation to\u00a0a new  property tax but we know that they have indicated to the Troika that is  coming down the track.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;They are\u00a0saying to the Troika one thing and telling the public  something else in relation this new tax. Clarity is  urgently\u00a0needed\u00a0particularly\u00a0for those hundreds of thousands of tax payers that this new tax will negatively impact on.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The value based property tax does not  appear\u00a0to\u00a0take account of personal circumstances such as ability to pay  or variations in value based on location.There is currently\u00a0huge  variations in the price of property between rural and city locations  with huge sums involved, depending on the area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe Government also\u00a0has not mentioned any  linking of their proposed new\u00a0tax with the ability to pay, or the taxes  like stamp duty \u00a0already paid by housebuyers when\u00a0they  bought\u00a0a\u00a0property.<\/div>\n<div> &#8220;Poverty Groups have rightly highlighted the difficulty  many families are already experiencing. This added burden will drive  more and more\u00a0people into poverty and deeper debt.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cSinn  F\u00e9in believes a\u00a0wealth tax would be a\u00a0more equitable \u00a0proposal\u00a0 linking  the \u00a0ability to pay with a percentage tax on all property, physical,  material and financial and\u00a0over \u20ac1 million. Our wealth tax  proposal\u00a0also\u00a0allows for\u00a020% write-off of the value of the principal  residence.
