Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has said that rip-off increases to home insurance must end.
Teachta Crowe\u2019s comments follow a warning by the Consumers\u2019 Association of Ireland that premiums have jumped by almost 22% in the last year.
Teachta Crowe said:
\u201cI know that many homeowners have been shocked by excessive increases in their home insurance. According to the Consumers\u2019 Association of Ireland, premiums have jumped by almost 22% in the last year.
\u201cThis is an issue that Sinn F\u00e9in Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD raised directly with the representative body of the industry, Insurance Ireland, in recent weeks.
\u201cThis is happening at a time when households are already under huge pressure from the cost of living crisis. Mortgage interest rates, childcare costs, grocery bills, and more are mounting up and families simply can\u2019t afford another crippling cost.
\u201cHomeowners feel ripped-off and they need to know that these high bills won\u2019t continue.
\u201cThe Minister must intervene directly with the sector to ensure that costs come down without delay.
\u201cGovernment must act to ensure that workers and families get a break from the cost of living crisis urgently.\u201d
