{"id":5235,"date":"2024-02-19T14:13:16","date_gmt":"2024-02-19T14:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=5235"},"modified":"2024-02-19T14:13:16","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T14:13:16","slug":"tallaght-driving-test-waiting-list-more-than-doubles-in-less-than-four-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/tallaght-driving-test-waiting-list-more-than-doubles-in-less-than-four-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Tallaght driving test waiting list more than doubles in less than four years"},"content":{"rendered":"Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has accused Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan of failing utterly in trying to tackle the waiting list in the Tallaght driving test centre after figures from the RSA show the backlog now stands at 17,725. <br \/><br \/>Teachta Crowe\u2019s comments came after new figures revealed that, during Minister\u2019s Ryan\u2019s current time as Minister, the waiting list for a driving test in Tallaght has grown by more than ten thousand people. <br \/><br \/>Teachta Crowe said:<br \/><br \/>\u201cAs of 31 January last, there were 17,725 people on the waiting list of the Tallaght driving test centre. That\u2019s greater than the population of Leixlip. <br \/><br \/>\u201cWhen Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan took office in June of 2020, there was less than 7,000 waiting in Tallaght. By any standard of judgement, the Minister has failed the people of Tallaght abysmally. <br \/><br \/>\u201cThis is not a new problem. I raised it in the D\u00e1il with the then-T\u00e1naiste Leo Varadkar in 2022 and was informed that it was \u2018important that people get a timely driving test\u2019. I asked that additional staff were deployed to Tallaght but this didn\u2019t come close to meeting demand. That is when I approached Minister Ryan directly about the need for an additional testing centre to serve south Dublin, but I was rebuffed. <br \/><br \/>\u201cI have written to minister Ryan again today to highlight the case for an additional testing centre in south Dublin. Tallaght represents over 10% of the entire backlog in a system that has over 40 testing centres. Temporary measures and additional staff clearly aren\u2019t going to cut it anymore. <br \/><br \/>\u201cThe Minister has failed the people of Tallaght who so desperately need a driving licence by forcing them into a queue that takes months and years to get through, all the while they are faced with barriers in accessing education, employment, and childcare.\u201d <br \/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has accused Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan of failing utterly in trying to tackle the waiting list in the Tallaght driving test centre after figures from the RSA show the backlog now stands at 17,725.
