{"id":5472,"date":"2025-10-14T13:38:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T13:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=5472"},"modified":"2025-10-14T13:38:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T13:38:22","slug":"sinn-fein-would-support-and-improve-the-lives-of-people-with-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/sinn-fein-would-support-and-improve-the-lives-of-people-with-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinn F\u00e9in would support and improve the lives of people with disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has said that Budget 2026 was a failed opportunity to help people living with disabilities.<br \/><br \/>Teachta Crowe said that Fine Gael and Fianna F\u00e1il must recognise they have failed people with disabilities, change course and commit to cost of disability supports immediately while there is still time.<br \/><br \/>Teachta Crowe, speaking ahead of a Sinn F\u00e9in motion in the D\u00e1il tonight that would support and improve the lives of people with disabilities, said:<br \/><br \/>\u201cPeople with disabilities and their households are one of the groups most at risk of poverty in this state, and they have been abandoned in Budget 2026 &#8211; a budget that has Fine Gael\u2019s fingerprints all over it.<br \/><br \/>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in\u2019s alternative budget proposed a \u20ac20 disability allowance payment, provided for a \u20ac300 lump sum payment to recipients of all core social welfare payments, including disability allowance.<br \/><br \/>\u201cWe also proposed a \u20ac25 increase in domiciliary care allowance, a \u20ac450 energy credit and an annual increase of \u20ac297 in the fuel allowance to ensure people with disabilities could get through the winter with a dignified standard of living.<br \/><br \/>\u201cAll this government has offered people with disabilities is a meagre \u20ac10 disability allowance increase that does not even keep up with inflation. Such a pitiful increase will be eaten up by food, energy and rents, which are all on the rise.<br \/><br \/>\u201cIt is cruel and frankly unjustifiable to pull supports from a group of whom half are experiencing material deprivation. The government must change course, and commit to cost of disability supports immediately while there is still time.<br \/><br \/>\u201cThat is why Sinn F\u00e9in are demanding the government to reverse its complete lack of supports for people with disabilities, and will be making specific demands for targeted payments.<br \/><br \/>\u201cFine Gael and Fianna F\u00e1il have a duty of care and they simply ignore people with disabilities when it stops suiting them to court support ahead of a general election.<br \/><br \/>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in will hold this government to account and ensure they are aware of the full scope of what they will be subjecting people with disabilities to if Budget 2026 is rolled out as planned.\u201d <br \/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has said that Budget 2026 was a failed opportunity to help people living with disabilities.
