The Irish\u00a0team  finished 16 out\u00a0of 48 teams at the World Cup in Mexico earlier\u00a0this  month.<\/p>\n<p>At a reception\u00a0 in Leinsten House Deputy\u00a0Crowe welcomed the team and a  presentation was made \u00a0to goalkeeper David Byrne who was voted  Goalkeeper of the tournament.\u00a0Crowe who had met\u00a0individual members of  the team in Tallaght earlier in year said\u00a0they were an inspiration and  that they had \u00a0helped shine spotlight on the challenge of homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is about honouring the players  who represented Ireland in the World Cup in Mexico namely; David Byrne,  Ollie Carroll, Ian Gannon, Paul Fitzsimons, Michael Nevin, Keith Hogan,  Wayne Reid, and Garreth Lynch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the tournament the Irish team played teams from well known  football nations like\u00a0Brazil, Ukraine, Poland, Argentina, Portugal,  Norway, South Africa, and Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Big Issue League now has tournaments in towns and cities right across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In total over 500 young people compete in Street Leagues. The  leagues culminate with an All-Ireland final that brings teams from North  and South to participate in a one day event which was held in the An  Post Club on the killtipper Road, Tallaght earlier\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Out of this tournament the current group of players were selected to represent\u00a0Team \u00a0Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticular  congratulations must go to David Byrne in recognition of his personal  achievement in being voted goalkeeper of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The lads are great role models and their commitment to overcome  personal and other adversities in life,\u00a0is an example to us all.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through  their personal commitment they\u00a0have focused a spotlight on the  challenge of homelssness both here and around the world..<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I only hope that their sacrifice does not go un-noticed by official  Ireland and that this will spur policy makers to greater efforts to  tackle the homeless crisis that is estimated to effect\u00a0 up to 5,000  people.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish Homeless team did us proud in the World Cup  \u00a0tournament, I want to use the opportunity of them visiting Leinster  house and\u00a0wish the team and their families every success in the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Warm \u00a0Welcome For\u00a0Homeless Team Dublin South West representative Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0TD\u00a0 has welcomed members of \u00a0the Irish Homeless World Cup team to Leinster House.
