{"id":629,"date":"2013-03-27T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-27T10:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-welcomes-family-tax-repeal-bill\/"},"modified":"2013-03-27T10:12:00","modified_gmt":"2013-03-27T10:12:00","slug":"crowe-welcomes-family-tax-repeal-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-welcomes-family-tax-repeal-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe Welcomes Family Tax Repeal Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Crowe Welcomes Family Tax Repeal Bill<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Dublin  South West\u00a0representative Se\u00e1n Crowe TD\u00a0\u00a0welcomed the \u00a0launch a of\u00a0bill  to repeal the Family Home Tax and committed his party to repeal the tax  if in government after the next general election.<\/div>\n<p>Speaking after the launch of the Financial Local Property Tax Repeal Bill Deputy\u00a0Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThis  bill is a key part of Sinn Fein\u2019s alternative to end the  policies of austerity that are crippling low and middle income families.  These families have unfairly\u00a0borne the brunt of austerity budget after  austerity budget under Fianna F\u00e1il\u00a0and now enthusiastically adopted by  this Fine Gael\/Labour Government.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;This legislation is in addition to our revenue  generating alternatives such as a wealth tax and tax increases for high  earners in the private and public sector.<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Hard pressed workers and their families\u00a0need a break and the\u00a0unfair burden on their collective shoulders needs to be lifted.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis\u00a0home\u00a0tax was signed off on by Fianna F\u00e1il and has been taken up  by the Fine Gael and Labour. There are a wide range of alternatives as  Sinn F\u00e9in has consistantly pointed out.<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe method of  collection of this new tax is brutal. Those who are accepted as being  unable to pay face a 4% penalty next year while those who can\u2019t pay but  are not recognised as being unable to pay face a 8% penalty. The  government will raid salaries, social welfare payments and pensions to  extract this tax on the family home.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cWe know the reality that one in four mortgages are in distress yet  these same households who may be in negative equity and have paid stamp  duty now face this extra tax. That is blatantly unfair and needs to be  reversed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThousands of families up and down the country will be  pushed over the edge by this tax. It\u2019s the difference between having  enough to make ends meet, to put food on the table, to pay the  electricity or gas bill, to be able to fill the tank with heating oil  and not doing so.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe saw in last week\u2019s list of exempted ghost estates, just how few  exemptions\u00a0regardess of the extent of the disrepair  or\u00a0hazardous\u00a0conditions\u00a0that families are forced to endure and pay  out\u00a0under this Government&#8217;s\u00a0legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in in Government will repeal this tax. Our bill\u00a0states in  black and white that we\u00a0would refund the tax paid by citizens for the  year in which it is scrapped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe intend to intoroduce this\u00a0new\u00a0bill on the floor of the D\u00e1il  shortly\u00a0 and it\u00a0will be debated during our Private Members\u2019 Time at the  earliest opportunity.<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIn the intervening period we are  collectively committed to continue\u00a0our campaign across the state to win  support for this particular alternative and bring about a\u00a0fairer\u00a0way  forward\u00a0to repeal\u00a0this unjust\u00a0tax.&#8221;<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crowe Welcomes Family Tax Repeal Bill Dublin South West\u00a0representative Se\u00e1n Crowe TD\u00a0\u00a0welcomed the \u00a0launch a of\u00a0bill to repeal the Family Home Tax and committed his party to repeal the tax if in government after the next general election.
