Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Diaspora, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has urged people to check their passports and ensure that they are in date and valid\u00a0if they intend\u00a0 to\u00a0travel abroad this summer.<\/p>\n
Crowe said that the\u00a0Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has implemented changes to the passport application service and\u00a0called on the department to implement an awareness\u00a0campaign\u00a0about them.<\/p>\n
Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI would urge anyone who is planning a foreign holiday to check their passport and ensure it is in date and valid.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo save yourself a lot of anxiety and grief, check you and your family’s passports today. Don’t leave it to the last minute as you may not be able to travel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe changes mean that\u00a0\u00a0postal passport applications now have to be submitted through the Passport Express service rather than by ordinary or registered mail.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the 30 June applications made through the standard postal service will not be processed and applicants will be advised to resubmit their application using the Passport Express service.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe main passport office on Molesworth Street in Dublin City is also operating a new appointment system, allowing the booking of an appointment between\u00a09am and 5pm, Monday\u00a0to\u00a0Friday so people do not have to wait in line, but it also\u00a0means\u00a0that applicants\u00a0can no longer just walk-in for an appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere needs to be a public information campaign throughout the summer, which is prominent in not only traditional media, like newspapers and radio, but also across the web and in social media.\u201d<\/p>\n
