The card, which is free, entitles people to health care in the EU and Iceland, Switzerland and Norway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving the card can make it much easier to get medical assistance, in the public health service of the country you are visiting, if you are unlucky enough to suffer ill-health or injury while abroad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone living in Ireland can apply for the EHIC from the Health Service Executive which promises that you will have it in ten working days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can apply online at www.hse.ie or at your local HSE office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t leave it to the last minute, apply now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Diaspora, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has warned that people should check their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and make sure it is not out of date before they travel this summer.
