Gas Hike\u00a0\u00a0 – \u2018A Sickening Blow\u2019<\/p>\n

Dublin South West representative Se\u00e1n Crowe TD has said that the announcement of another gas price increase by Bord G\u00e1is will deliver a sickening blow to the pit of\u00a0 many a household stomach\u00a0 right across the country.<\/p>\n
Crowe questioned the necessity of this latest hike and said it would create another unbearable burden on many families that are already struggling to meet payments.<\/p>\n
Bord G\u00e1is\u00a0 have announced that the regulator has given them permission to increase gas bills by another 2%,<\/p>\n
Deputy\u00a0 Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we approach another winter this is not good news for\u00a0 all those families and individuals who are already struggling to meet domestic bills.<\/p>\n
“This shock announcement of another gas price increase\u00a0 will deliver a sickening blow to the pit of many a household stomach\u00a0 right across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI t will be the elderly, those with\u00a0 disabilities, the unemployed, lone parent families and many others that are struggling on the margins of society that are certain to feel the brunt of this price increase.<\/p>\n
\u201cFuel poverty is an issue that has yet to be taken seriously by \u2018the powers that be\u2019 in Ireland and this unwelcome price increase will do nothing to alleviate the growing problems that more and more people are facing with the winter almost on us.<\/p>\n
This body blow that the regulator has given \u2018the nod\u2019 too will hurt the most vulnerable and deny comfort and warmth to thousands of our citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe price increase does not make sense, especially at a time when companies like Bord G\u00e1is are in an extremely profitable and healthy financial position.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe company\u2019s annual financial report for 2012 outlined that they are performing well despite the on-going recession.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore must be done by Bord G\u00e1is to relieve the burden from households and struggling families.<\/p>\n
