{"id":1897,"date":"2014-10-14T17:34:45","date_gmt":"2014-10-14T17:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=1897"},"modified":"2014-10-14T17:34:45","modified_gmt":"2014-10-14T17:34:45","slug":"crowe-welcomes-no-cut-in-overseas-aid-in-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/crowe-welcomes-no-cut-in-overseas-aid-in-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowe welcomes no cut in Overseas Aid in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has welcomed the Government\u2019s announcement that it will not cut its Overseas Development Assistance in Budget 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Crowe, however, expressed the view that much more needs to be in the Government\u2019s foreign affairs policy to support development, peace, reconciliation and human rights, actions which would not cost the Irish taxpayer a cent.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn its 2015 Budget the Government announced that it will spend just over \u20ac600 million on overseas development aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcome that the pattern of cutting the overseas aid budget has stopped, but as a percentage of Gross National Product (GNP), overseas aid spending has actually decreased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again I am calling on the Government, in the interest of accountability and transparency, to publish their proposals to reach the target of spending 0.7% of GNP on overseas aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also believe the Government needs to be doing far more in its foreign policy to support development, and promote peace, reconciliation, and human rights.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ENDS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Se\u00e1n Crowe TD, has welcomed the Government\u2019s announcement that it will not cut its Overseas Development Assistance in Budget 2015.
