Dublin South West representative \u00a0Se\u00e1n Crowe TD\u00a0believe that\u00a0the latest social impact assessment carried out by the Department of Social Protection confirms\u00a0similar studies\u00a0from the ESRI \u00a0which found that the lowest earners gained the smallest benefit from Budget 2015.<\/p>\n
Crowe said that\u00a0once again\u00a0 the\u00a0high earners, the wealthy elite\u00a0\u00a0were looked after in the Government\u2019s budget\u00a0priorities.<\/p>\n
Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe latest social impact assessment confirms what Sinn F\u00e9in feared after the announcement of Budget 2015, that there would be a complete\u00a0absence of\u00a0 any fairness from the\u00a0 government when it came to spreading the\u00a0financial\u00a0burden.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably the most damning\u00a0element of\u00a0this briefing is the confirmation that non-earning households may in fact feel another loss on the previous year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Government’s budget will undoubtedly\u00a0deepen the level of deprivation and widen the poverty gap across the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe report goes on to\u00a0suggests that the distributive impact is uneven with higher than average gains for the\u00a0better off.\u00a0The budget\u00a0\u00a0gave a minuscule increase in child allowance but that does not\u00a0take into account\u00a0the hardship imposed by the\u00a0\u00a0local Property Tax, water charges and the extensive cuts to social welfare payments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government spin about this budget protecting the vulnerable and low income earners has been shredded and\u00a0badly exposed. The poor and those struggling to make ends meet are carrying an unfair and onerous\u00a0burden.<\/p>\n
