font-size: x-small;\"><strong>Sinn F\u00e9in\u2019s D\u00e1il\u00a0Education Spokesperson\u00a0 Deputy Se\u00e1n <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span>,  has\u00a0met with officials\u2019 from the Association of Secondary Teachers,  Ireland, (ASTI) including The Union\u2019s Assistant General Secretary, Moira  Leydon, and Diarmaid de Paor, the organisation\u2019s Deputy General  Secretary <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">Describing the meeting as \u2018 useful and  informative,\u2019 the Tallaght based TD said he was determined to meet with  as many Organisations and individuals working in the Education Sector as  possible in order to ensure the rights and entitlements of teachers  and\u00a0students within the Irish school system are maintained and improved.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">Deputy <span class=\"il\">Crowe<\/span> said\u00a0\u201cThe meeting with senior personnel from the ASTI was an opportunity  for me to hear at\u00a0first-hand some of\u00a0the many challenges and issues  facing teachers working in schools across the Irish State.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cThe loss of our economic sovereignty means we face\u00a0increasingly challenging times.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\"> There is  widespread agreement across civic society that\u00a0if we are to generate  future growth then we\u00a0have to\u00a0ensure a high standard of education that  will\u00a0produce a highly\u00a0motivated, skilled and capable workforce. <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">The resources  available in schools, and the support given to teachers, is central to  teaching our children effectively, and\u00a0greater emphasis\u00a0has to  involve\u00a0ensuring everyone, regardless of their economic, social or  ethnic background has the opportunity to fulfil their academic  potential.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cDuring the meeting with the ASTI, a  number of issues were discussed, including the Croke Park Deal; further  possible cuts in teaching staff and the implications this would have for  class sizes; the delivery of key subjects within the school curriculum  and the challenges faced by teachers who will be central to implementing  any future reforms to the Junior Cert examination.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\">Sinn F\u00e9in shares a lot of commonality with ASTI on many of these issues.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cWe support the  rights\u2019 of children and young people to avail of an  inclusive\u00a0well-resourced education system where classroom integration  and access to a range of support services are available to assist  teachers and their pupils.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">\u201cThis Government needs to invest in the  State\u2019s education system and prepare today\u2019s young\u00a0students so they are  well equipped to enter opportunities in\u00a0the workforce\u00a0while developing  their full\u00a0potential.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;\">It is essential  even\u00a0at this difficult\u00a0economic time that we\u00a0see the roll out\u00a0of  a\u00a0progressive education system through the implementation of forward  thinking polices.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;
