Hospital Crisis Solidarity Protests set for Monday
<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe<\/span> has announced a series of protests that will\u00a0 take place at hospitals across the state, including at Tallaght Hospital in his own constituency, on Monday. The protests are to held\u00a0in solidarity with Hospital Staff and Patients will coincide\u00a0and mark the day when the expected\u00a0crisis due to a lack of junior doctors is due to begin.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

A series of coordinated\u00a0protests will take place at Loughlinstown, Tallaght, Mallow, Letterkenny, Monaghan and Sligo on Monday at 1pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking as he announced details of the protests today Deputy Crowe<\/span> said:<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

“Monday\u00a0is\u00a0a critical\u00a0-day when\u00a0a new\u00a0\u00a0expected\u00a0crisis due to rock the Health Service and when\u00a0the shortage of Doctors\u00a0in our hospitals\u00a0is expected\u00a0take affect. The expected shortage of Doctors will potentially put many\u00a0lives <\/span> at risk\u00a0in\u00a0 Accident and Emergency Departments and our protests are being organised in solidarity with the staff and patients at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis latest crisis is another scandal\u00a0to hit \u00a0the\u00a0Health Service\u00a0and is being\u00a0used as a smokescreen\u00a0to close down Accident & Emergency Departments right\u00a0across the state. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

It is\u00a0a far cry from the pre-election promises delivered by\u00a0both Fine Gael and Labour just a short few months ago<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe\u00a0shortage of Doctors\u00a0boils down to political choices and this Government, despite its pre-election promises, has chosen to continue pumping money into banks, paying off bondholders, guaranteed and unguaranteed, rather than investing taxpayers\u2019 money in areas likeour health system.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

“People voted for change but like Groundhog Day, its more of\u00a0the same<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHealth Minister James Reilly\u00a0seems completely out of his depth in handling this\u00a0mess. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He\u00a0was forced to admit on Primetime on Thursday night that he has not secured the GPs to replace Roscommon Hospital Emergency Department from tomorrow.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister’s plans simply don’t add up. He should not proceed with this ill-conceived plan but should provide the leadership and the resources to keep vital Emergency Departments open.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
