Energy regulator needs to call stop to electricity\u00a0 hike<\/p>\n
Dublin South West TD\u00a0\u00a0 Se\u00e1n Crowe , has called on the Energy Regulator to call a halt and stop the huge 10% ‘hike’ in electricity prices which An Bord G\u00e1is plans to announce later this week.<\/p>\n
Crowe said that the Regulator needs to ‘bin the\u00a0 request’\u00a0 from the same Company for an increase in\u00a0 Gas Prices which he said would add “even more misery on thousands of families already suffering\u00a0 fuel poverty.”<\/p>\n
Deputy Crowe said:<\/p>\n
” Bord G\u00e1is says it needs to increase prices because of the Global Market. At the same time, the\u00a0 same company\u00a0 has made huge profits from loyal customers.<\/p>\n
” Their proposals to increase\u00a0 energy costs\u00a0 will increase the pressure on many company’s, particularly those in manufacturing, struggling to make keep open and retain jobs in the current climate.This latest bombshell will push more and more people\u00a0 into fuel poverty.It will inevitably\u00a0 lead to an increase in the numbers of customers\u00a0 in arrears and increase the number of ‘unfortunates’ in real danger of disconnection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe current crop of energy suppliers are on record as saying there is an\u00a0 obvious connection between price increases and failure to pay bills.
\u00a0 If people can’t pay this will\u00a0 impact directly and negatively on An Bord G\u00e1is.<\/p>\n
\u00a0” It makes no makes no sound economic or social sense\u00a0 to impose\u00a0 further increases especially at a time when many thousands of people are already in difficulties and suffering from fuel poverty.

“The Regulator needs to do what is right for customers and\u00a0 rescind the electricity increase and\u00a0 reject outright the application for an increase in gas prices.<\/p>\n
“It will be a difficult enough winter for most customers, with\u00a0 tax hikes and increases\u00a0 coming down the tracks to pay off European bankers and their speculator recipients.<\/p>\n
