Crowe participates in Dublin protest in support of Teresa Treacy<\/p>\n
Speaking after participating in a protest held this week on St Stephen\u2019s Green, Dublin, in support of a 65 year Co Offaly woman Teresa Treacy who was jailed in September for blocking the installation of an ESB power line on her land, Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe appalling treatment of Teresa Treacy is absolutely scandalous. Here we have a pensioner jailed on a point of principle \u2013 for objecting to the installation of an ESB power line on her land.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was ironic that the show of support for Ms Treacy was held outside the ESB offices in a building that once was home to Anglo Irish Bank. Despite the devastation caused by reckless bankers, many of whom were employed by Anglo, not one person has been sent to jail for the role they played in bankrupting our country. By contrast, an elderly woman is targeted by the State and jailed for what is at the most a minor infraction.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy participation in this protest was to show solidarity and support for Ms Treacy. Her incarceration in Mountjoy Prison shames this State and its judicial system and she should be released immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
