Responding to recent media leaks and\u00a0reports which indicate that the Government may make drastic\u00a0changes to the child benefit system,\u00a0Dublin South West\u00a0Sinn F\u00e9in TD Se\u00e1n Crowe has called on the Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton\u00a0to ‘lay off’ cutting\u00a0 child benefit, which is a universal payment, but insure\u00a0that urgent\u00a0measures to\u00a0reform and bring about a fairer\u00a0more inclusive\u00a0tax system are introduced\u00a0and ensure that those who can afford to\u00a0pay more actually pay more.<\/span><\/p>\n Deputy Crowe said:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cChild Benefit is a universal payment\u00a0and has served Irish mothers and their families extremely\u00a0well over the years.
