Crowe Congratulates Leaving Cert Students and Teachers<\/div>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in Education Spokesperson Se\u00e1n Crowe TD has commended teachers and students on the week that the first round of College offers <\/span>from the Central Applications Office <\/span>(CAO) were published. He praised the resilience and dedication they have shown in a year when cuts to staffing schedules and other important services had resulted in significant challenges for schools\u00a0right across the country.<\/span>

Deputy Crowe said that students should not be disheartened if they have not yet received a college offer in this week\u2019s round of offers from the CAO and he emphasised the importance of students picking subjects that stimulated their interests and for which they were best suited.
<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cStudents who were not offered a place on their preferred third level course should,\u201d he continued, \u201cnot despair as there is still\u00a0a chance they will be accepted on their\u00a0preerred course in the later rounds of offers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would also urge students to treat any offer received as potentially,\u00a0the final offer that they may get for\u00a0their\u00a0chosen\u00a0 Course.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cThe Teachers\u2019 Union of Ireland (TUI) has drawn attention to the huge <\/span>number of students still taking Construction Studies and I support their calls that there needs to be a review and a\u00a0revamp of the antiquated Apprentice System. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI also share the\u00a0TUI\u00a0concerns that any additional cuts to school staffing numbers will place many key subjects at risk and further shorten the odds for young people from disadvantaged\u00a0backgrounds having the opportunity to progress to Third Level.

\u201cThe publication of Leaving Cert results is a stressful time for students and their families. They should not despair\u00a0 or be despondent\u00a0should they fail to obtain the results they were looking for or gain access to their preferred course. There are many future opportunities that they can avail of and I would urge all Leaving Cert students to look carefully at all\u00a0their options and\u00a0take heed of the \u00a0advice theyare given \u00a0as they plan for the future.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
