Crowe urged parents and guardians\u00a0to use the resources of the  Childrens\u00a0Ombudsmans office to access legal\u00a0rights and entitlements for\u00a0  children where denied.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy\u00a0Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Ombudsman for Children\u2019s  Annual Report for 2011, it shows there were almost 1,500 complaints  lodged last year &#8211; an increase of 22% on\u00a0the year before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt  is\u00a0extremely worrying \u00a0that\u00a0 once again\u00a0\u00a0nearly half the complaints  reported\u00a0related to educational issues, including transport and the  allocation of special needs supports and services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report\u00a0 clearly\u00a0illustrates how the incremental\u00a0cuts\u00a0on  education are directly impacting on children and as\u00a0 Ombudsman Emily  Logan correctly states in her report,\u00a0the\u00a0rights of Irish children were  often systematically rejected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier in the year a school principals\u00a0refusal\u00a0to admit a  16-year-old girl because she was pregnant was highlighted in the  national.media. As a direct\u00a0result of a complaint,\u00a0this\u00a0young  persons\u00a0case\u00a0was brought to the Children\u2019s Ombudsman\u00a0 and Education  Minister Ruair\u00ed Quinn has\u00a0now agreed \u00a0to amend\u00a0legislation around\u00a0school  enrolment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny parent or guardian\u00a0who has concerns about the rights\u00a0and  entitlements of\u00a0a child\u00a0should consider\u00a0using the resources of\u00a0the  Children\u2019s Ombudsman\u2019s office as\u00a0this\u00a0particular case shows, they\u00a0\u00a0can  deliver for applicants.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use resources of\u00a0Childrens Ombudsman says Crowe \u00a0 Dublin South West \u00a0TD Se\u00e1n Crowe\u00a0commenting on\u00a0the increased of amount\u00a0complaints to the Children\u2019s Ombudsman\u2019s Office said it was a worrying trend \u00a0that once again the majority of cases related to\u00a0various aspects of \u00a0education.
