Sinn F\u00e9in TD for Dublin South West Se\u00e1n Crowe has strongly criticised the government for allowing the waiting list for the Tallaght Orthodontic Unit to pass 1,500 children, with hundreds waiting more than two years to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Teachta Crowe said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe waiting list of children to be seen in the Tallaght Orthodontic Unit for those with severe or extreme orthodontic work need now stands at 1,558 according to the latest figures from the HSE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven more shocking is that 483 of these children have been waiting for more than two years. And we are not talking about relatively simple procedures like having braces fitted. These are children with Grade 4 and 5 orthodontic needs. This means that corrective action is essential to prevent long-term damage to a person\u2019s teeth, bite, or jaw function. The longer such procedures are left undone, the more complex the resulting damage is to correct. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis government has abandoned children in need of care in Ireland. Whether it is orthodontic work, speech and language therapy or scoliosis surgeries, there is not one aspect of children\u2019s health that is operating as it should in a modern health service. Fianna F\u00e1il and Fine Gael are incompetent when it comes to operating a health service and it is children who are suffering most.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
