{"id":989,"date":"2013-09-23T10:05:47","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T10:05:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/?p=989"},"modified":"2013-10-29T07:31:28","modified_gmt":"2013-10-29T07:31:28","slug":"nama-housing-promises-moving-at-snails-pace-crowe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seancrowe.ie\/home\/nama-housing-promises-moving-at-snails-pace-crowe\/","title":{"rendered":"NAMA Housing Promises Moving At  &#8216;Snail\u2019s Pace&#8217; &#8211; Crowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NAMA Housing Promises Moving At\u00a0 &#8216;Snail\u2019s Pace&#8217; &#8211; Crowe<\/p>\n<p>Dublin South West representative Se\u00e1n Crowe TD described as &#8216;old hat\u2019 the latest promise of NAMA delivering 4,000 social housing units to Local Authorities and said he recalled a similar story two years ago of 2,000 promised units that actually delivered just 400.<\/p>\n<p>Crowe said that the roll out of social housing by NAMA was happening\u00a0 at a \u2018snail\u2019s pace\u2019 and described the author of this latest story as \u2018heartless\u2019 as they \u201cbuild up the hopes of tens of thousands of housing applicants that currently are stuck on a merry go around going nowhere and on queue that is getting longer and longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Se\u00e1n Crowe said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a disingenuous and heartless story suggesting NAMA will somehow \u2018conjure up\u2019 4,000 Social Housing units.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is clearly \u2018old hat\u2019 and wont happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo years ago of the 2,000 promised social housing units they actually delivered just 400.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s happening, but at a \u2018snail\u2019s pace&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the summer, the number of people on Council waiting lists for social housing grew to a record high of 111,000 applicants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;111,000 families and individual housing applicants, all on waiting lists, that are officially getting longer and longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn South Dublin you can wait up to 8 years for an offer of an actual house or apartment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And NAMA is talking of rolling out only a handful of housing properties in the South Dublin Council area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NAMA Social housing option even if speeded up is clearly no cure for the housing shortage in South Dublin or the rest of country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe author of this latest 4,000 story is \u2018heartless\u2019 as all he or she is doing is building up the hopes of tens of thousands of housing applicants that are currently\u00a0 stuck on a merry go around, going nowhere fast and on queue that is getting longer and longer .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople need realistic housing options not schemes and plans that are delivered at a snail\u2019s pace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinn F\u00e9in last year published a plan that would begin the building 9,000 homes over the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis would engender hope, create badly needed jobs, allow practical training for young apprentices and delivering badly needed homes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis would not end the housing crisis but it would help much more than empty promises from Government and their NAMA entity.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAMA Housing Promises Moving At\u00a0 &#8216;Snail\u2019s Pace&#8217; &#8211; Crowe Dublin South West representative Se\u00e1n Crowe TD described as &#8216;old hat\u2019 the latest promise of NAMA delivering 4,000 social housing units to Local Authorities and said he recalled a similar story two years ago of 2,000 promised units that actually delivered just 400.
