Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Seán Crowe TD, has stated his support for the on-going reunification talks in Cyprus.
Crowe was speaking after the Cypriot Ambassador to Ireland came before the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss the talks process and the positive momentum they have gathered since they resumed on 11 February.
Deputy Seán Crowe said:
“There is growing optimism and positivity surrounding these new reunification talks and the first phase will end with a meeting between the Cypriot President and the northern Cypriot leader on 31 March.
“I fully support these talks and wish the negotiators well in their difficult, but important deliberations.
“It is important that the EU and particularly Ireland play a pro-active role in helping to progress the talks, and I will be encouraging the Irish Government to do this at every opportunity.
“Similarly as in Ireland, it is clear that Cypriot reunification makes social, economic, and political sense.”
