Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Defence, Seán Crowe TD, met with Nicholas Pitsos, an executive member of Le Mouvement de la Paix, France’s major peace movement, and one of the biggest in Europe.

Crowe arranged a cross-party meeting with Mr. Pitsos and Oireachtas members in Leinster House today.

Deputy Seán Crowe said:

“I would like to thank the Peace And Neutrality Alliance (PANA) for arranging and facilitating Nicholas Pitsos’ visit to Ireland. I was happy to arrange a cross party meeting in Leinster House today so that Oireachtas members could meet him.

“Nicholas was here to detail his views on the crisis in the Ukraine, the Middle East, and the militarisation of the EU.

“After the recent attacks on journalists, a Kosher supermarket, and civilians in Paris Nicholas explained how it was important that progressive forces in France, and across the European Union, tackle the twin problems of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

“It was refreshing to hear that Le Mouvement da la Paix is actively working towards stopping the increased militarisation of the EU and the ongoing attempts to create an EU standing army, both areas of huge concern for Sinn Féin.”
